About Us
Edinburgh Stingers have a club committee, who are appointed annually, voted by the members at our AGM. They coordinate the day-to-day running of the club and can also help any club members with problems they may have. You can contact any Committee member in strict confidence. The Club is run according to our Club Constitution, which is agreed by all of our members. A copy of our Club Constitution can be found here.
Our Team BioEdinburgh Stingers - founded 1996 [previously Livingston Devils 1992 - 1996]Edinburgh Stingers are the third oldest of eight recreational ice hockey clubs based in Edinburgh. We have played 18 years of continuous ice hockey and provided the starting point for 4 other Edinburgh based [breakaway] teams and at least one Fife based team. We have always enjoyed our sport and played accordingly. Whatever the strength of the opposition, we always play to win but are also committed to make the game entertaining and fun. We are proud of our club. Our Club shows the true spirit of recreational hockey and have over the years introduced more than 80 new players into the Scottish sport including players from as far away as New Zealand, Australia, Czech Republic and of course, England. We currently have players from Canada, the USA and Venezuela. We also share the sport with the fairer sex - a situation other clubs will not entertain. Our age range is between 16 and 60 at present making us truly an equal opportunities sports club. In terms of crowds, recreational hockey tends to draw variable numbers with the largest crowds being in organized competitions, but we as a team travel the length and breadth of Scotland [Inverness to Dumfries] and into Ireland and England to play games. We have even toured in Ontario, Canada, playing in a number of cities and played host to teams from North America and Scandinavia. We also love to take part in any charity or fund raising activity especially if it involves playing the game. Our sponsor's name would therefore be quite widely spread. Our more recent successes include victory at the under 18's Competition in Irvine [December 2006] where junior teams from all over the UK took part. To give the youngsters a break, a mini tournament took place involving ourselves and two other teams. We won the tournament being unbeaten in all our games. We also take part in the annual Scottish Plate competition. We have reached the semi-final stage on more than one occasion. Each year can vary because recreational hockey is not permitted to run a league but the team play on average two or more games per month over the full year and we do not have a summer break unless the ice rink closes.
